Hovercraft are weight dependent vehicles, so the faster they go, the less durable they tend to be, race hovercraft might last the season, whereas purpose designed personal leisure hovercraft last a heck of a lot longer.
When a hovercraft starts from on-water, they create a pressure wave known as The Hump - some suppliers fudge payload by quoting on-land payload - all hovercraft manage to lift 50% of more weight when starting from on land - if you don't have sufficient lifting power while stopped on water, this might just spoil your day. Check how many pies your passengers have eaten, make sure you know the on-water payload capability.
Some hovercraft skirts are made of paper thin stuff suitable for making stockings, polyurethane coated nylon lasts far longer than neoprene coated nylon and Hypalon.
Some manufacturers cut corners on cost of engines - if an engine has been modified in any way, the manufacturers warranty is invalidated - make sure that your hovercraft engine has sufficient power to work unmodified, and ships with full engine warranty.
Make sure proper safety features are fitted - e.g. front and rear guards to the fan assembly to stop little fingers getting sliced or worst - kids are curious, if you want them to grow up able to play piano, fit a front and rear guard.
